The unusual orientation of this pendant takes advantage of the brilliant blue-green splash of precious opal flowing across  and through the deep brown matrix. It is rare for such a band of color to go completely through the stone, and the pierced opening on the reverse side reveals the color on the reverse side.

On the back, a carving of a Lotus blossom is nestled against an earthen bank. The idea of bright water is enhanced by the flowing bands of silver which surround the opening, creating a serene and tranquil image.

Stone measures  1/2" long by 3/4" wide by 3/16" thick, not including the jump ring bail where the chain goes through.

Shown on the Mini Cable Chain.

Please note chains are sold separately, and you can find a great selection in different styles and lengths here on the Chains Page.

About this gem:

Boulder opal owes its formation to a unique set of geological conditions. It is primarily found in Australia, particularly in the Queensland region. The opal forms when silica-rich water seeps into cracks and cavities within the host rock, usually ironstone or sandstone. Over millions of years, this silica-rich solution slowly evaporates and solidifies, depositing tiny spheres of silica gel. These spheres are responsible for the opal’s ability to diffract light and create the mesmerizing play of colors.
