This charm is meant to evoke the carved and pierced scroll work of wooden panels from ancient Persia. Often used as window decoration, the openings also allowed light and air to pass through interior spaces while protecting them from the glare of the sun and the dust of the streets.
The heart has a diamond-patterned edge, reminiscent of the way light scatters through openings in carved woodwork. It has a Sun with a Spiral center, as well as a Crescent Moon and Stars. These symbols are universal in their expression of night and day, and their arrangement within the openwork heart is meant to show constancy and devotion.
Made from Sterling Silver, and hand carved on both sides. This charm is 3/4” wide x 7/8" tall.
