The face of this highly unusual stone has an iridescent purple streak, like a bolt of Lightning, running down from the top left of the stone. A thin, glowing rainbow outlines the Bolt against what appears as a deep blue cloud bank. On the other side of the Lightning, shimmering orange fades to a bright green sky that seems to be simultaneously clearing, while also raining down streaks of patterning towards the horizon below.
The bail, the place where the chain moves through, is carved with a Crescent Moon and Star on this side, meant to remind us of the cycle of day and night, since that particular pattern can be seen at either time of day.
On the reverse, this green changes to bright blue, while the Lighting Bolt retains its steely purple shimmer. The orange glow around the formation fades to blue, which gets brighter as it travels to the point of the stone. Jagged lines in the stone are reminiscent of the path that Lighting can take, as it moves towards the ground.
The original concept for this stone, based on its markings, came from the idea of a Bolt from the Blue, where a lighting streak can travel up to 25 miles through seemingly clear air to strike in a location far away from the storm. The dark blue on the front of the gem evokes this faraway place, while emphasizing the idea of clouds massing behind the strike.
On the reverse of the stone, the silver is carved with my trademark Phases of the Moon, here meant to represent not only the passage of time, but the tranquility of the sky after a storm has passed through. The colors of evening shade the gem, even as the Lighting Bolt appears in the upper right on the reverse.
The stylized clouds in the carving hold the energy of the Storm, and the potentiality of Water. The zigzag Lighting Bolts hold the power of Electricity, whose discharge helps create the organic molecules necessary for New Life.
Taken all together, this image symbolizes the ability to turn adversity into opportunity. It also encourages us to be mindful of the awesome power of the forces of Nature. The concept gives us strength to know when to step back and let those things beyond our control take their own course. Only then can we take the elements left behind to shape our personal Destiny into something new and fresh.
The Sun on the bail on this side echoes that new energy, and heralds the passage of any storm.
1 & 1/2“ tall by 1 & 1/4” wide by 5/16” thick. Length of pendant doesn't include the the part that the chain goes through, known as the bail. Please see the image with the ruler for scale. Shown on the Wheat chain.
** Please note chains are sold separately, and you can find a great selection in different styles and lengths here on the Chains Page. **
A note about Labradorite's colors: Every effort is made to capture the best color of the gem when the item is photographed for presentation. This depends largely on the angle of the light on the stone when the image is captured. Labradorite's inherent nature means that under the right conditions, the color flash will be intensely luminous and vibrant. On the other hand, when you view your new piece under some conditions, it could appear very dark, or with even with only minimal color. This visual reminder of life's changeable nature is part of Labradorite's allure. You can incorporate this idea along with the specific emotional symbolism built into each one-of-a-kind, handmade silver setting. Enjoy!
