The symbol side of this piece shows the Raidho rune, which has its roots in the Proto-Germanic word “Raidō,” andcan be translated to “ride” or “journey.” Raidho stands for travel, cosmic order, communication and dynamics. It represents movement and progress, embodying the idea of a journey as a transformative event. The concept of a journey was not just physical but also spiritual and metaphorical. Journeys were seen as rites of passage that shaped the destiny of individuals and communities and symbolizes the eternal cycle of becoming and passing. Raidho invites us to follow the rhythm of life and to travel into the depths of the soul.
Raido belongs to the First Aett, which represents the cycle of life. These are the core aspects of human existence, and the necessary phases that each of us must experience during our journey through this life. These aspects of life can be taken literally, or they can be understood metaphorically to represent current forces and events. In the wheel of human experience, Journey is a fundamental aspect of growth and development.
The Norse Rune or "letter" featured on one side of my Runes is taken from a writing system called Elder Futhark. There are many explanations of this Norse writing system in both classical and popular literature. The image side of every Rune represents emotional attributes of its Nordic letter and are pictograms of my own creation. Each Rune description includes an etymological reference of historical origins well as modern meanings.
There are a total of 24 Elder Futhark Runes. They can be divided into three groups of 8 runes each. Each group of 8 is called an “aett” which has an several underlying meanings that can be shared by all 8 runes within it. The additional insight from the Aett formation can help clarify individual rune interpretations.
