The image side of this Rune shows a series of arches with light rays emanating from the arches. This illumination signifies deep understanding that can come from movement of Spirit through realms that may not be immediately understandable.
The Symbol side of this piece shows the Old Norse “Peorð,” it’s one of the few runes whose name doesn’t have a clear translation in modern languages. Traditionally, people associate this rune with mystery, chance, and the unknown. It represents the roll of the dice and the unpredictable nature of fate as well as the mysteries that lie beyond our understanding.
The shape of the runic letter can be seen as a cup, a vessel that holds something unknown or hidden. This could be a secret, a hidden truth, or even the mysteries of our own subconscious. Pertho expresses the element of chance. This includes an understanding that actions committed in the past, will affect the present and also the future. Pertho gives insight to our own motivations, while acknowledging forces beyond our control. It encourages us to use our emotional skills to move towards the highest good.
Perthro belongs to the second aett of the Elder Futhark, represents external forces, or forces in the world which act upon you. These can be both beneficial forces and negative forces. Runes in this aett have the potential to assist you with directing some of these external forces to bring a positivity outcome. This aett carries themes of resistance, survival, and the cyclical nature of life.
The Norse Rune or "letter" featured on one side of my Runes is taken from a writing system called Elder Futhark. There are many explanations of this Norse writing system in both classical and popular literature. The image side of every Rune represents emotional attributes of its Nordic letter and are pictograms of my own creation. Each Rune description includes an etymological reference of historical origins well as modern meanings.
There are a total of 24 Elder Futhark Runes. They can be divided into three groups of 8 runes each. Each group of 8 is called an “aett” which has an several underlying meanings that can be shared by all 8 runes within it. The additional insight from the Aett formation can help clarify individual rune interpretations.
