Solar Eye Ring
The pattern of this ring is based on our planetary relationship to the Sun and the Moon.
In the center of the design is a small Sun, whose solar rays extend out in long spirals of energy. There is a circular ring in this rayed center, which represents the sphere of the Earth. Inside this circle is a crescent moon.
The dance of the Sun and Moon in our Earthly sky has been a source of wonder and delight since time out of mind. Every culture from every millennium has used these symbols in one way or another. From being worshiped as deities, to their use as time-keepers, these heavenly bodies have influenced human activity and thought throughout the ages.
The Moon has a distinctive cycle beginning with waxing crescent. It swells to full moon glory, then wanes down to the dark quiet of the new moon. We measure our months by this Moon cycle, as did the ancients.
Our planet's progression around the Sun marks out our year, dividing it into seasons of growth and abundance, harvest and dormancy. Together, these two celestial objects define many aspects of our experience here on Earth.
Yet we can forget Earth itself, one reason that in this image the planet is represented only as a thin ring. Our fascination with the night sky and the moon can overshadow our view of the Earth looking up and out as we do. In similar ways, our dependence on the Sun for light and warmth affects so much of life on this planet, yet sometimes we take the Earth itself for granted.
This is why the circle in the center actually represents a sphere. It is not merely a ring around the Moon, but the focal point of the three bodies and their alignment.
The Earth disc becomes the center of a Solar Eye, providing the means to alter our perspective towards our place in the solar system. Like the expanding and contracting iris of an eye, the Earth's position around the Sun defines how we view life on this planet.
The Moon then becomes the pupil of the eye; the opening whose size allows varying amounts of light to enter and be transformed into thought and feeling.
This ring is from the Resin Image Collection. This style is one of the few that has a good variety of both sizes and colors, with at least two sizes in available every color.
This narrow ring is made sterling silver and colored resin. Top width of the ring is 3/16".
