Peace Symbol
The peace symbol we know today was an original design from the late 1950’s in Britian. It was taken from the flag semaphore characters N and D and was meant to represent the concept of nuclear disarmament. Never copyrighted or trademarked, the symbol spread world wide and became synonymous with the idea of peace in general, especially as in protests against wars, social justice, and climate change.
This version of the peace symbol features a continuously entwined leafy vine. The leaves are a symbol of growth, and the vine represents tenacity and strength. The pattern is endless, like the process of self-knowledge.
On the reverse side are the words Awareness across the top curve, Wisdom along the bottom curve, and their combined outcome, the word Peace. By understanding our Selves, we can develop the ability to emphasize with and aid in the support of others. Peace is a personal journey that connects our inner selves to the higher good.
