The rune Eihwaz comes from the Germanic word for "yew tree". The Eihwaz rune is a symbol of protection, strength, and stability. It is often used as a talisman to ward off harm. The yew is a sacred tree in many cultures, associated with the cycle of life. In Norse mythology, the yew is the tree of life, Yggdrasil, and its branches are said to reach into the nine worlds. This is the World Tree, connecting all things.
The Eihwaz rune can be used to achieve goals, overcome obstacles, and find strength in times of adversity. Eihwaz rune is believed to offer Protection from harm and negative influences. It is also said to promote courage and perseverance in the face of difficulties. This rune highlights a sense of purpose and the interconnectedness of all aspects of existence, encouraging you to have faith that the changes in your life are happening as they need to.
Eihwaz belongs to the second aett of the Elder Futhark, represents external forces which act upon you. These can be both beneficial forces and negative forces. Runes in this aett have the potential to assist you with directing some of these external forces to bring a positivity outcome. This aett carries themes of resistance, survival, and the cyclical nature of life. As a rune of protection, Eihwaz represents a path towards safeguarding your progress.
The Norse Rune or "letter" featured on one side of my Runes is taken from a writing system called Elder Futhark. There are many explanations of this Norse writing system in both classical and popular literature. The image side of every Rune represents emotional attributes of its Nordic letter and are pictograms of my own creation. Each Rune description includes an etymological reference of historical origins well as modern meanings.
There are a total of 24 Elder Futhark Runes. They can be divided into three groups of 8 runes each. Each group of 8 is called an “aett” which has an several underlying meanings that can be shared by all 8 runes within it. The additional insight from the Aett formation can help clarify individual rune interpretations.
These beautiful, handmade Rune Charms are heavyweight, with deep carvings on both sides of the Rune.Each Rune comes with a jump ring large enough to thread on a chain. The one shown is the 2.2mm Square Cable Chain.
Runes are solid Sterling Silver and measure approximately 5/8" high x 7/16" wide x 3/32" deep.
