In Proto-Germanic languages, the name of the s-rune, Sowelu, represented the sun, a symbol of joy, abundance, and success. This rune references positive energy, good fortune, and celebration. It is a symbol of effort and energy coming into fruition which can lead to a surge of elemental power and vitality.
This rune represents the light and warmth of the sun, which offers clarity, illumination, and a sense of peace. Sowelu belongs to the second aett of the Elder Futhark, which represents external forces, or forces in the world which act upon you. These can be both beneficial forces and negative forces. Runes in this aett have the potential to assist you with directing some of these external forces to bring a positivity outcome. This aett carries themes of resistance, survival, and the cyclical nature of life. As part of this group, Sowelu embodies themes of enlightenment, foresight, and intuition.
The Norse Rune or "letter" featured on one side of my Runes is taken from a writing system called Elder Futhark. There are many explanations of this Norse writing system in both classical and popular literature. The image side of every Rune represents emotional attributes of its Nordic letter and are pictograms of my own creation. Each Rune description includes an etymological reference of historical origins well as modern meanings.
There are a total of 24 Elder Futhark Runes. They can be divided into three groups of 8 runes each. Each group of 8 is called an “aett” which has an several underlying meanings that can be shared by all 8 runes within it. The additional insight from the Aett formation can help clarify individual rune interpretations.
These beautiful, handmade Rune Charms are heavyweight, with deep carvings on both sides of the Rune.Each Rune comes with a jump ring large enough to thread on a chain. The one shown is the 2.2mm Square Cable Chain.
Runes are solid Sterling Silver and measure approximately 5/8" high x 7/16" wide x 3/32" deep.
